The Flyway Lodge is a hidden and architectural gem in Knotts Island. It is technically in North Carolina, but it was not far past the Virginia border which makes it a unique and convenient venue for couples looking for something truly unique! Besides it’s main building, with a spectacular pitched roof and shingles, their entire land is beautiful. The land at Flyway Lodge has old trees scattered throughout, that also line their long gravel road. The Flyway Lodge building is unique and beautiful with some rustic charm but with so much land you could bring in everything for your wedding day and make it completely your own. I love venues surrounded by the outdoors and that have their own elements of character to them and the Flyway Lodge was no exception.
I believe that Events By Jacklyn created this stylized wedding at the Flyway Lodge perfectly! All of the colors, textures and details complimented the brick walls on the inside of the lodge and popped against the outdoor elements of the rest of the venue. She asked She Design Co. to continue with the uniqueness of the venue throughout the invitation suite and that is why she decided to hand draw a sketch of the Flyway Lodge building on the invitation.
Now, I consider myself a “story-teller” when I photograph weddings and couples. That is why even if it is a styled wedding, like this one, I prefer the couple in the portraits to be a real couple so I can tell their story. I photograph people talking to each other, interacting with each other and most importantly how their relationship truly is. I learned that our “couple” had actually been friends since they were kids, dated each other previously but were currently just friends. I thought that this would be challenging but once I started photographing them it was not challenging at all! No pressure to these two, but through my camera I was wondering if they would ask me to photograph them on their wedding day! 😉 Seriously though, you two should call me if that ends up happening! You will see what I mean when you look at their portraits. They were two of the easiest people to photograph because they laughed together, and I may have played up the whole “use to date each other” thing for a few good laughs!
I absolutely loved photographing all of the talent and details of this wedding at the Flyway Lodge and I look forward to working with all of these vendors again in the future!
